THERE IS A HUGE MYTH AROUND THIS TOPIC, WHICH OFTEN MAKES HEADLINES WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE MODELING WORLD. THAT’S WHY A DISCLAIMER IS NEEDED FIRST:
Health and Well-being
You should never make decisions or go on diets that will have bad consequences on your health.
Of course models pay attention to what they eat, they also train and practice sports but not to a level that could represent a danger for them.
Unfortunately, eating disorders are more common in this industry, we must recognize that the modelling industry is really demanding because there is strong competition.
You’ll certainly feel this pressure, because being successful as a model requires real work and discipline. But no matter what, you must never put your health and well being in danger.
Your journey to become a better version of yourself and becoming an established model has to remain balanced and feasible. Be patient and set yourself achievable goals.
Reminder
«A model’s diet» can be about changing simple things about your diet, and establishing good habits if you don’t already have them.
As a matter of fact, most models follow diets that are high in fruits, vegetables, and also proteins, healthy fats and complex carbs (will explain more later about these) but low in saturated fats, sugar and processed foods.
To sum up, it’s about going back to more natural foods. When doing so you’ll see that you are more aware of how you feel in your body and your energy levels, and you’ll realise that what you eat affects how you feel.
Simple things to know
The difference between good and bad fats: it’s good to consume a moderate amount of what is called «polyunsaturated fats», which are found in foods like nuts, olive oil, avocados, and fatty fish like salmon.
On the other hand you must limit your consumption of saturated fats, which are found in meat and dairy products.
The most important thing is to avoid processed foods. We all know it is probably the hardest thing to do when trying to eat healthy.
Processed foods taste good because of all the sugar and salt they contain, they can be very convenient to grab when you’re busy and they can be very addictive! But they can have terrible consequences on your health.
Eat complex carbs: «carbohydrates» are also important for a healthy diet, but not all carbs are created equal. Choose whole grains instead of refined carbohydrates. Brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and oats will also leave you feeling fuller for longer.
Simple things to do
Many people confuse clean and healthy eating with deprivation, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Listen to yourself, find foods and ways of cooking that please you. Maybe you’ll even discover new flavors to love.
It’s about smart eating, and finding ways to make it easy.
Eat when you’re hungry. Did you know that nutrient-poor foods can be responsible for hunger pangs, no matter how much you eat?
If your body isn’t getting the right nutrition, it’ll always signal to your brain that it’s hungry, no matter how much you eat. When you feed your body with the right kinds of foods, you’ll be surprised at how easily you will feel full.
So don’t skip meals if you are hungry. Skipping meals can cause your metabolism to slow down and it can also cause you to overeat because you will be very hungry by the time you do allow yourself to eat.
Listen to your bodyAllow yourself to eat whatever you want sometimes, often called as «cheat meals».
Following a «model’s diet» shouldn’t be a chore, it’s all about being concerned about the quality of the food you eat, and about taking good care of your health.
If you need more advice about what healthy foods you can incorporate into your diet, ask to see a nutritionist or someone who is qualified, like a doctor.
