SELF CONFIDENCE IS BOTH A SIMPLE YET COMPLICATED SUBJECT.
WHEN YOU BEGIN AS A MODEL YOU MAY BE REALLY YOUNG, BUT YOU CAN ALREADY BE AWARE OF THE CONCEPT, AND MAYBE HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH IT.
SOME LUCKY PEOPLE DON’T EVER SEEM TO BE BOTHERED ABOUT IT, BUT MOST OF US HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH A LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE AT SOME POINT IN OUR LIVES.
Difference between Self Confidence and Self Esteem
Self esteem is about believing you’re worthy of respect from others.
It’s about respecting yourself first.
You mustn’t wait for others to decide what « amount » of respect you « deserve ».
They don’t have the right or responsibility, it’s yours to take and defend.
In life you’ll definitely meet people who won’t agree with you and maybe even won’t like you, but it doesn’t mean you’ll have to question yourself every time.
Of course it’s not pleasant, and you’ll have some things to learn about experiencing that.
But for it not to feel like it’s the end of the world, you need to have strong foundations.
You need to let go of what others may think about you in order to really be yourself: you can’t please everyone and that’s ok.
You can’t wait for other’s approval.
It’s YOUR life and with the choices you’ll make, you’ll meet people that will truly like you for who you really are.
Self confidence is about believing in yourself, but both of these notions are linked.
Self confidence tips and tricks
If you need more self-confidence, there are things you can do.
So take control of it and of your life.
First you’ll have to learn to be aware of your self-talk.
Self-talk is the thoughts you have in general, especially about yourself.
Listen to it and see if you think positively or negatively of yourself most of the time: “I’m too fat/too thin/too ugly” or “I’ll never be good enough/pretty enough smart enough” – sound familiar? That’s negative self-talk, and it doesn’t help you one single bit.
If you have a negative picture of yourself, try to analyze why you have such negative thoughts.
Get to know yourself to understand why you think this way.
And then do this small exercise: think more positive thoughts in your mind.
Try being nice to yourself!
It seems a tiny little thing to do, but it can make a huge difference!
You can find ways to fix the issues you may have in your self confidence.
Instead of staying with the negative thoughts about your perceived failings (which are usually not so many anyway), make a point of being nice to yourself, because you are worth it.
You’ll see that you were setting so many limits on yourself, in a completely arbitrary way…
Whenever you have to confront any issue that makes you feel insecure about yourself, think about finding solutions!
And for that there is always a way to get prepared.
If you worry about not doing well at something, beat this feeling by preparing as much as you possibly can.
There are no silly ways to reassure yourself when you need to do whatever you need to do.
It can be about looking for information about a subject, educating yourself about it, and all the way to getting some guidelines about what you’ll need to say.
Get organised to overcome any unexpected problem.
In other words, increase your competence at what you need to do to feel ready.
