You’re not without knowing that the modeling world has certain physical requirements but it’s not always as strict as you think as you’ll find out below.

You’ll see that different models categories do exist depending on your body type or features you can intend different categories in modeling and find your place in that world.

Here are some basic things to know about the average measurements that is often asked.

But don’t forget that agencies take the whole package into account: charisma, general appearance, posing skills, special features… to make you become a model.

Models Measurements

Here are some common measures asked by the agencies (you will be able to learn how to take your measures in an article that is coming soon).

It’s usually asked to measure at least 1.72 meters best is between 1.74 and 1.80 with good proportions, a homogeneity in the silhouette here are more indications depending on the models category.

Basic measurements are often written as a serie of 3 numbers. The accepted format requires the following info: Bust-Waist-Hips, IN THAT ORDER.

For example, if a model lists their stats as “34-24-35”, that indicates their Bust is a 34, their Waist is a 24, and their Hips are a 35.

Classic and Special Faces

First of all you need to know that agencies often present their models as classic models or special models.

Classic ones are more about conventional beauty, perfect beautiful face and then the special ones reflect another definition of beauty that stands out more: sharp facial structures, unique features.

Some of these features can be considered less conventionally attractive but can be a huge advantage to become a model.

Runway/Editorial Model

This category is the most exclusive but not least and not the easiest.

“Size requirements” are strict and hardly exceptions are made (within one inch, and MAYBE two) for the models to fit the standard clothing size and also the concurrence is huge!

Partly because fashion designers are not doing made to measure clothes for the models, that’s why the measurements are so strict, every girls must fit in the clothes.

Editorial modeling is about fashion magazines, it’s close to Runways requirements but often prefer what we call special faces.

Commercial Model

Commercial work is more about conventional beauty.

While having a face that stands out is good, the unique, odd features of many editorial and runway models may not fare so well in commercial work but it depends on each girl.

What we call commercial is more about advertising, TV etc… with different range levels and prestige depending on the brands.

There if there are exceptions instead it depend of the budget.

Beauty or Lingery Model

If you have a more voluptuous and curvy figure you could be a beauty, bikini or lingery model!

The Beauty category is about having a nice body, skin, smile and hair to promote more cosmetic products or make beautiful pictures, the height and measurements are less strict in that area.

In fact it exists a special and professional management for every girl who can fit with 1 or several of this categories.

Age

The girls must be between 14 and 22 years old.

The legal age to begin working as a model is 16 but you can be scouted much younger and be a part of a model agency’s  development department this is made to follow you and give you the best management  until you are on age to travel and become a confirmed model, it also has a perfect combination with schools programs!

You can still become a model after 22 but it would be more difficult, girls that age are often required already having some experience in modeling, but it’s not impossible!
